Great work getting the fry shots. I sure wish the wife's would grow so i could quit grinding up pellets to feed them everyday.

Man, that male is a monster
Congratulations to the spawn. I have been told that they are not that easy to spawn and that the fry is a bit tricky to grow out. Never kept these fish for some unknown reason

Re: Altolamprologus compressiceps Fire Fin
Thanks guys!!!
Klaus, getting them to pair up was a challenge at first. I thought the male was going to end up killing the 2 females that were sold with him as a trio. Once they paired it's been smooth sailing. The fry are very delicate and lazy at first which is a challenge as far as getting them to eat. I've got a system figured out now that is working very well. They spawn regularly and I'm not having any trouble keeping the fry alive. The way I've got the tank set up with a fry chamber built right into the tank works like a charm too. (more info on it in the DIY section)
I really like the altolamps, very cool fish.

I've been redoing my fish room and can see the full lengh of this tank now so I can start geting pic's. HE had his dorsel up but when I got back with the camera he dropped it. He loves to pearch on top of teh filter and oversee his domain. His back is starting to arch, I can't wait for these guys to get big.Rift_Lakes_Rule wrote:Aura wrote:I like this one. I don't know why I expected the babies to look like tiny versions of the parents.
Just an update, this guy now belongs to Danger Chicken, hopefully we can watch him grow up as Mike takes exceptional photo's. (hint hint hint )

That's awesome!!! He was my lil buddy, I miss that guy. I've got a tank full of fry growing out but none of them are as special as that guy was. He was the first obvious male that I grew out. I had him from March-November. I'm really glad you got him.
He's lookin great, keep the pic's coming

Re: Altolamprologus compressiceps Fire Fin
That sucks. A friend of mine called about a week ago and told me that all the fish he had in the 66 gallon where dead. This was also because of the heater. This happens way to often.

Mike, sorry to bring this back up after you've lost Zeke, but I was wondering what you used in the tank for the breeding cave? It looks like some sort of pvc pipe with the entrance blocked off?
One more question -- did your comps do much digging?

Re: Altolamprologus compressiceps Fire Fin
No worries Betty
They were ceramic breeding bells with a piece of slate siliconed over the entrance so Zeke couldn't fit in there.
Mine didn't really dig much, Zeke did dig out enough so he could fit into his hiding spot but for the most part there really wasn't any digging going on.
