Altolamprologus compressiceps Fire Fin
Here's some crappy pics of my wild caught Fire Fin comp.
Female guarding eggs.
This is their home, 40 long divided. 3 foot breeding chamber / 10 inch fry chamber. Filtration is a Hamburg Mattenfilter (see my DIY ) and a Penguin 330 HOB.

That Firefin has some of the best red coloration of any I have ever seen.

The biggest are probably just over a half inch long, still very small. When people said they grow slow, they weren't kiddin
Hopefully they'll hit another growth spurt soon.

Zeke was all the way at the back of the tank on that shot, I'll have to try upping the flash intensity for those shots... he spends a lot of time back there playing peek a boo

I like this one. It's awfully cute.
I don't know why I expected the babies to look like tiny versions of the parents.

I love the body shape of the compressiceps . I´m gonna start a Tanganyika tank in the future. I have a juvi tank with 13 Neo. leleupi. Do u know if they will work together with compressiceps in a 66-80 gallon tank?

Re: Altolamprologus compressiceps Fire Fin
Thanks Swede. They should be fine in that size tank. They occupy the same types of territories but the comps will set up shop in one spot and stay there, the other fish will figure out where they can and can't go. That's one cool thing about them, they don't claim the whole tank and don't bother the other fish to much, just don't try to pet them when they're spawning or have babies in the tank

Re: Altolamprologus compressiceps Fire Fin
If you are buying juvies you'll want to start with 6, if you're buying adults a trio. You'll want to end up with 1 male and as many females as he will accept. I bought a trio of comps and a trio of calvus (all wild adults) and I ended up with a pair of each and the calvus still aren't really a pair, they have a on and off relationship and so far they haven't been on when the female was ready to spawn ... I think the male is too impatient. Wether you buy juvies or adults, the fish will decide amongst themselves who stays and who goes and you won't have any problem figuring out the choices they've made
