my 50 gallon rimless upgrade
so i have been busy cycling this tank to upgrade from the biocube...
i am going to keep the biocube running with a few pieces of live rock, a few zoos and my 2 little fish in it and put it in my room...
here are some pics of the tank from when i first got it to now....
i have since added in a few more pieces of live rock and dead corals from a 500 gallon system...i have about 40 hitchiker brittle stars now, some sponges, and a ton of pods
i am in the final stages of cycling...tests are reading good, and i am getting the diatom bloom....
i will try to update this thread regularly

Thanks for the update. I've been wondering what you've been up to with your new saltwater addiction!

The saltiness is strong in this one.
Great looking tank Belle. It'll be fun watching it mature.

Re: my 50 gallon rimless upgrade
thanks everyone! i believe the tank is about done cycling...it has been 14 days and no ammonia or niTRITE at all...
so hopefully by next friday i have a piar of black and white clowns in there...yay!! and then i will be adding a new fish every 2 weeks or 3 weeks...just to give everyone time to settle in...
i am excited, now i just hope none of my fish decide to go carpet surfing...i have a piece of eggcrate if i need to make a top out of it..hopefully i dont but i have it just incase...
oh and i got a Vortech mp-10 for the tank...its gonna be sweet!!

Re: my 50 gallon rimless upgrade
got all the corals moved over to this tank from my biocube, and after the move i cannot believe i had all those in a 14 gallon...lol...
also got my pair of black and white clown fish in there...have named them "keeko" and "luna"....keeko was the whale that played willy in free willy and luna was his mom...and i thought since they are black and white the names fit
also the smaller male kept jumping into my overflow, just like willy jumped the wall in the movie so now i know the names really fit...lmao!!!
i will update with pics soon...letting everything settle in...
only have one more fish to add to the tank and i am waiting a week to add him...a 6 line wrasse..so only 3 fish total...but i will have a few crabs, snails, and some cool macro algae soon....
updated pics coming soon!

Re: my 50 gallon rimless upgrade
Great looking tank, Belle!
I have had my first SW tank (15 gal) going about 4 weeks now.
Just about over the diatom bloom, but I have discovered the little anemones that came on the live rock are majano anemones, and may not be good if I want to have soft corals or zoanths later on.
They are cute little things, but may have to go away....which may not be too easy!

Re: my 50 gallon rimless upgrade
thanks everyone!!
the majanos are not fun... and yeah they will sting the corals...and grow over them...
its also hard to kill them..most over the counter things dont work...
i have read the best way to get rid of them is to soak the rock in bleach or muratic acid..which will kill the rock completely...
luckily i have only had one majano and it was on a small piece of rock so i threw the rock out *knocks on wood*
i got the start to a full calf tattoo yesterday..the tat will start on my foot and wrap all the way up my calf(front and back) with every species from my tank on it...zoas, palys, all the fish, and even Dum-Dum !!!!!
