my O ventralis has what looks like maybe the begins of fin rot but idk it could be nipped fins as well the end of the tail is a plaish color and at the base there is what seems to be a lil bump here are some pics

Hard to say if it´s fin rot. Fin rot is usually easy to fix. Heat up the tank to 82-84 fahrenheit and put in some salt.

You should also do a wc before treatment.

Doesn't look like nipped fins to me. You might want to take the Swedes advice.

I would try some maracyn 1 for the external infection and then
try maracyn 2 to treat any possibility of a secondary infection.

But try some salt or some Melafix first for a few days before moving to meds.

Derik, No meds! 70% Water change , uniodized table salt @ 1tsp. per 7.5 gal of water changed. Change 50% of the water again in 3 days with salt again, but @ 1 tsp. per 10 gal of water changeed.

I'm not trying to start an argument here on this thread, but I'm only trying to learn something here. So nobody think I'm trying to attack anyone's position.

I'm not convinced that salt is the "cure all miracle" worker in every case.

Salt basically increases slimecoat production, also increases the ability of the gills to gather oxygen, speeds healing of wounds by drawing out the infection, kills some parasites. It's not a miracle cure and plants and scaleless fish don't tolerate too much of it. 1tsp per 7.5gallons is a pretty low dose, for ich some people recommend a tablespoon per 5 gallons.

Maracyn (erythromycin) is great for infections, fungus and finrot.

If I catch something early, I'd personally rather use salt as an option. If it's to the point it's spreading or fungussed then I would probably go with something a bit stronger like erythromycin or tetracycline.

No, what size tank is it?

I normally for any treatment use 1 tsp, per 5 gallons of water in your tank.

Not the amount you change.

If you are doing a 70% water change take out 7 gallons for every 10 gallons the tank is. (100 gallons change 70 gallons.)

If you have a 100 gallons of water add 1 Tsp of salt for every 5 gallons.. ie: 20 tsps for 100 gallons. 10 Tsps for 50 gallons.
