Re: red devils
Incredible shots!!
I don't know anything about this fish, I'll have to look it up.
Would you consider doing a sticky or a topic page on photographing tank shots? All I seem to get is a flash reflection and I did take a photography course...a couple actually. I think we would all appreciate learning how to improve our fish shots. Not that most of us are likely to ever get to this level but it would be much appreciated. You seem to get awfully good depth of field somehow. I can't possibly close down my aperture that much with the flash I have now.
Anyway, great looking fish and great pictures.

Re: red devils
If I use on camera flash I usually have better luck with the camera pointed down at an angle to keep the reflection down. That last shot I had to crop out some curtains and other reflections. I used a shoe mounted manual flash with a diffuser, had to use a higher ISO than I'm used to to get to F10.
Just picked up a new camera today and maybe kept 10 out of 250 shots so far just goofin' with it
This was an old setup with an overhead slave

recently built a bounce box that gives a good bit of light

Re: red devils
Jeff is this the new camera?
Great shots.
If I shoot those settings I get to much light.
Are you using a 4 ft bounce box with 1 or 2 ac flashes?

Re: red devils
Thanks Jeff..
I still can't believe the difference in the settings.
My frontosa pics were at 1/400
F/20 ISO 200
Can't believe Canon and Nikon are that much different.

Re: red devils
I used spot metering, not sure it makes much difference with the slave flashes but it did with the no flash pics. Might be from the 2ft depth of the tanks, I use the box all the way to the front, if a fish is toward the back of the tank I have to change everything to get a shot. Tried setting it in the center of the 180 African tank yesterday, it worked better but I don't like my blue background showing up that much on that tank so I moved it back to the front.

Re: red devils
Nice shots! Happely surprised that they still are able to be in the same tank and not looked upon as food. I guess he´s a good daddy.

Re: red devils
How big are they now compared to the parents? I don't know anything about these fish but as they start to get colour, do you think they will start to become "rivals" instead of progeny?
