a few ?'s about feeding....
i have 4 yellow labs, 4 red zebras, soon to add 4 rusty's and 4 afras.....
right now i am feeding them NLS 1mm pellets. the fish are are 1.5-2" long
1. how often do you feed them?
2. when should i get a larger pellet size?
3. do you treat them to a frozen or fresh food?
(what types?)
Thanks
Paul

Re: a few ?'s about feeding....
I feed my fishies 2 times a day, 12 hours apart (solely due to my schedule.
The size of the fish determines pellet size (it has to fit into their mouths...) since I have fish from 5 inches dowm to 1/2 an inch, i have to crush the 1mm pellets for the smaller guys.
As far as fresh food, I do not feed my fish frozen proteins (one reason is feeder fish could be diseased or have parasites that you will not see, and I also believe that feeding live fish/frosen proteins make them more aggressive - have you ever seen an aggressive vegetarian?). My fish only get veggies since too much protein is bad for them (the protein in the pellet is all they get). I have given them cucumber slices, soft carrots, whole pea pods (in a clip with a suction cup that I stick to the side of the tank) and I will also hand feed them baby spinack leaves. They LOVE them all, and it provides them with a high fiber diet, and the minerals they need.

i will feed my fish up to 5 times a day but only what they can eat in about 30 seconds and i feed them frozen krill and brine shrimp once a week or so and if i have worms left over from a day fishing i will feed a few to my fish and i also feed live food from small feeders to tadpoles that my son catches in the mud puddles by my house and fish are healthy and grow fast.

There are many ways to feed youe fish. Nobody is'right' and nobody is 'wrong' as you see by the two opposing feeding styles. As long as they get the nutrients they need, they will be fine

Most all my fish love green English peas...I remove the outer hull (tedious) and drop them in...fish go crazy for them.

I feed my mbuna 1mm NLS, even the adults. I just recently added a larger pellet by accidentally ordering the wrong size. The largest adults handle it okay, but most of them "chew" it up and make a mess by expelling particles through their gills.
I feed them twice a day, what they eat in about 30 seconds. I sprinkle some gently across the top and toss some into the filter outflow so everyone gets some.
Fresh veggies on occasion, usually the day before water change.
