Some of my Neolamprologus leleupi
My other Tangs. I couldn't decide between transcriptus and leleupi, so I got both. (Not in the same tank.) The fish store said I could return the fish I didn't want to keep, but I got a pair to form from both species, so I want to keep them. I thought mbuna were prolific, but both the transcriptus and leleupi didn't waste any time getting down to business.
I wonder if these are two separate broods. There is quite a size difference. The female spends a lot of time in her cave and it's impossible to see what is going on in there.

Thanks. I think I'm going to look for some darker colored rocks for this tank. I love the way yours look against that dark rock.

Re: Some of my Neolamprologus leleupi
It looks like they might be at it again. They've started chasing the fry away from this corner.

Re: Some of my Neolamprologus leleupi
I haven't been able to get a picture of the inside of the "cave", but the female has been hanging out in and near it all day today and the male has been close by.
They did venture out when I tossed a tablet in the tank for the babies to munch on.
Dad not wanting to let the little ones eat first.
So I dropped another tablet in. (That's algae on the glass, not spots on their little bodies. )
Does anyone know how long the babies will be safe from aggression from the parents? They are in a 20 long, so there's not a whole lot of space.

Cool pics & congrats on the babes . I have never spawned these but they look big enough to me to be separated from the parents . better safe than sorry.

Re: Some of my Neolamprologus leleupi
I ended up putting a divider in the tank because the male was starting to get a little rough with the young ones, chasing them away from the side of the tank where the female's cave is.
Yesterday I was able to see some fry in there. They look exactly like the sand and I could not focus on them, but those are fry inside the breeding "cave".
And on the other side of the divider, the fry are curious and wanting over to the other side.

Your tang. experience has went exceptionally well!
Wish I could get lucky with two breeding pairs like that!

Any new shots of the juvies? Would be fun to see how they have developed.

Re: Some of my Neolamprologus leleupi
I tried to get some pictures, but they didn't turn out so great. I've had to move some out because they are coming non-stop, so these are not the same fish as the first set of fry pics.
The original pair are very prolific and are constantly raising young ones. There are a lot of tiny little ones out and about and the female is in the cave again!
Oldest fry/juvies. Not sure how old these are, I've lost track, but I need to find homes for them or take them to my lfs soon.

They look awesome Betty! Nothing wrong with those shots. What size is your leleupi tank?

Re: Some of my Neolamprologus leleupi
They are in a 20 long. I was going to move them to a 29 gallon, but the footprint is the same as the 20 and I don't think they'd use the extra height. Right now I have a divider in the tank because of the new group of babies. (My growout tank is full of bristlenose plecostomus, so I can't move anything at the moment.) I don't want any more fry, but the male starts killing the older fry/juvies in brutal fashion. I'll be getting those juvies out soon because they are starting to look like sardines in there.
I'd really like to put the adult pair in a bigger tank with another species or two.
