Seth got them to go with his shellies this summer. He's lost interest so they moved in with Zeke last week

Re: Julidochromis dickfeldi
That's not even the best lookin one, it's too fast/shy... it see's the camera and ducks into the rocks instantly... can't sneak up on it either.

Re: Julidochromis dickfeldi
A friend of mine had the dickfeldi, and he had problems with them after the weekly water change. His pairs often split up. Have u noticed anything like that?

Re: Julidochromis dickfeldi
I have heard of this before but haven't experienced it yet as mine are still small and haven't paired up yet that I know of. They have been in my son's room since we got them so aside from stepping in to have a look now and then I really haven't had time to observe them much. I recently moved them into one of my tanks so I'm getting a better look at them now. I do know that several of the Tang pair bonds are very delicate bonds and can be broken in the event of a stressfull situation such as moving the fish from one tank to another, even changing the aquascape has broken bonds for some. I wouldn't doubt that a large water change might cause a bit of stress leading to a stumble in the relationship but have yet to experience it with my fish...

The blue doesn't pop like that in the aquarium tho... it's more like a hint of blue. I guess the flash really shows it off, maybe the lighting in my tank isn't good enough to bring it out.

If u want to bring out the blue in your fish u should buy philips aquarelle tubes. Best tubes on the market, and especially when it comes to the color blue.

Re: Julidochromis dickfeldi
Thanks everyone for the compliments
I've been suspecting that these guys had spawned but because they are in a rockpile there was no way to tell for sure until I saw the fry... which I saw the other day finally!!! Just got around to getting some pictures.

Re: Julidochromis dickfeldi
The parents are doing a good job protecting them from the other fish in the tank, notably a female compressiceps who I'm sure has gotten quite a few of them. I noticed a couple fry that were hanging out on top of the rockpile which is a bad place to be and I'm sure she's noticed a few too. Every time the comp or the shellies come around the Julies run them off. When the comp comes around both parents stay in the rockpile with the fry and the female darts out and attacks and is back in the rock's before the comp can turn around. She's like a streak of lightning when she attacks the comp, it's pretty cool to watch. I'm not to bothered about keeping the fry at the moment, once I set up more tanks downstairs I'll set up a tank for this pair so that I can manage them and the fry easier.

Re: Julidochromis dickfeldi
Congrats, Mike! They sound like they're behaving like my transcriptus.
Nice shots of the fry. Mine do that same thing -- hanging vertically and upside down with their undersides staying against the rocks. A few days ago I noticed mine had a lot more newborn sized fry. I had forgotten just how tiny they were.
