My new Protomelas Red Empress male
I picked the American strain of Red Empress, rather than the European strain "Super Red Empress" because I liked the how the blue head fades to purple then to the orangey red of the body.
I noticed when he's a little spooked, the juvinile bars show, as in this picture:
When you sort of sneak up on him, you don't see the bars. I think he looks pretty good for one day in his new home.
Two of his females are in the left of the picture.

Re: My new Protomelas Red Empress male
Thanks, everyone. I had a hard time making up my mind! I was looking at peacocks, but kept coming back to him!
I got the male and 3 females.
I hope I'll see some breeding soon. (crossing fingers)

Re: My new Protomelas Red Empress male
A little over 7 inches..
Thank you.
He is in a all male tank, and does not show his color much.
Throw him in with a female he brightens up.

Re: My new Protomelas Red Empress male
I´ve read somewhere that P. taeniolatus males can be very tough on there females, so it´s probably a good thing that you got 3 females. I hope you succed to breed this species because they are stunning fish.
