Herichthys carpintis - Green Texas Cichlid
A friend gave me this boy last spring around 4" he's up to 8" now and a complete bully. Every fish in the tank feels his wrath except the larger Oscar. He chases mostly, and doesn't do any damage other than stress. I'm working on getting him his own tank, the fish he's beating on now will out right kill him if they pair and breed. And if they don't pair and breed they'll still kill him when they get larger.

125g first but if he's too rough then he might get a 55 to himself. No plans on breeding him.

On another site, I've got a picture of a person holding up a cardboard sign that says "Save African Cichlids... Eat an Oscar!!!" My buddy bull made it for me. I've always thought they looked tasty, might have to grow a few out and see.

In a lot of the places our fish are from the locals do eat them. Not only does that hold true for New World cichlids but many of the Africans as well. One of the best tasting freshwater fish in my parts are Blurgill Bream and they are not nearly the size of Oscars.
