My first cyp fry! Empty My first cyp fry!

I've been watching my cyps pretty closely the past few weeks since I first noticed a holding female. I noticed her before I noticed any of the males turning blue but now there are 3 obvious males (two blue tail, one yellow). I had noticed a few days ago that the large female that had been holding wasn't anymore so I wondered....

Anyway, as I'm doing my water changes tonight I noticed a baby cyp about 3/8" long. Woohoo! I hope he makes it. I'll be watching the tank hard for the next few days to see if he makes it and if any more show up.

Cheers!

I do too. Congrats!

Is your filter intake covered? If not, look closely the next time you clean it -- I've discovered fry in mine several times in the past -- alive and seemingly well. Sometimes bigger than their siblings in the tank!

Well, there only seems to be the one, but as of last night it was still there. It stays in the rear, left corner mostly which is the least inhabited area of the whole tank so as long as it does it might make it.

No, my filter intake isn't covered. Breeding really isn't my focus with this tank, I'd just like a few more cyps so I'm hoping some grow up. If I really were interested in breeding I definitely would cover it though.

Aha! I caught them in the act last night. I happened to glance over just at the right moment and caught what I'm pretty sure was a female dropping an egg and hurrying down to pick it up. There was one of the males (a blue one) who was obviously in mating form doing the shimmy/display thing for all he was worth.

There are currently two females holding and one of them has to be close to spitting because you can clearly see heads and eyes through her stretched out mouth. Too cool. thumbs up
