Today In The Fishroom~9/18/11 Breeding P. coatzacoalcos

Post by Aquamojo on Sun Sep 18, 2011 7:36 pm

The larger P. Sp. "coatzacoalcos" are breeding again. I am constantly amazed at not only the dramatic color shift, but also how quickly it happens.

So the fish that looks like this:

Looks like this literally in seconds:

He spent a lot of time arranging the plants (silk) around the mouth of a ceramic cave.

The female had eggs in the cave. Unfortunately the males "attention" proved to be a little too much. She was getting beaten up...so I separated the pair hoping she would return to the cave.

Close up of the male's head.

And one thing that never changes color is the beautifully colored dorsal fin.

Awesome fish. What is the full scientific name so I can look them up, and how big to they get?
