They have easily become one of my best looking fish. Its a mystery to me why they are not more popular in the hobby.

That's the way I feel about the Astatotilapia latifasciata. The males and females both look good, they are not hard on each other, are lively and don't hide, and breed like crazy!

I don't have any pics but I will get some this week. To me the are one of the best afra's because the males are really nice in color and the females have at least a little color.

Hakan sorry about taking so long for the female pics. I got very aggrevated with myself on the tank cause I let my holding female spit in the tank. I did manage to tear down the tank to get one fry but man I was hoping for more.

Re: Afra Puulu
No I ended up losing the one female as it turns out. She held for about 20 days before swallowing the fry. At the time I thought I had a mix of 4 males 4 females so I didn't know she would get so much attention cause I thought she had more females to help distract males. After she died I started moving out extra males to try to get my best looking male alone with the 3 I thought were female but every time I would pull another new colored up male out another thought to be female would color up.
Now I am on the look out for females or even some juvies to take my chances with again but so far no luck.

Re: Afra Puulu
Sorry for the loss of that female Michael, I understand how valuable those lone females are - had a few groups grow out that were all-male but one or two girls. They are so precious in those situations.
Re: Afra Puulu
I know what you mean Brian. I had just looked at her the night before she swallowed and thought about stripping her but decided against it. If I would have known she was the lone female though I would have at least moved her to a nursery tank. Oh well, they make for a colorful tank in my 125 to have 7 males colored up until I find some females.

Re: Afra Puulu
I'll keep my eyes open for any Puulu's. Haven't seen too many of them around the web for sale - which is good (rarer species, woot!) and bad (makes finding more tough).
