Electric Blue Jack Dempsey / Jack Depmesy
A friend gave me an EBJD this past weekend. She'd been promising it since May and I had been egarly waiting and it was worth the wait. This guy is 3", a strong eater, friendly with me and holds his own in a 125g with several agressive fish larger than him.
Everytime I'd try to take another fishs picture he'd swim in front
He's a great pic of my Green Terror...no it's not its another blurry EBJD picture hog
Here are some pic's of the one that didn't get away. I bought two of these last Jan but one died the first week. This one made it past the drop dead stage. In April he decided to jump the divider to see what was on the other side. It was a pissed off flowerhorn...the 3" EBJD didn't last long with the 10" FH. This one was more white than blue, I would have like to see him grown out. I didn't feed the FH for days afterwards, I was like no food for you until that body is gone.
I had a pair of regular JD's. The large female was "found" in a tank I bought. She was about 3-4yrs old and the guy forgot she was in the tank. He had a dozen mbuna's in there with her. When cleaning out the tank I grabbed her thinking she was a rock (the tank was in bad shape) I don't know who jumped higher me or the fish. The male was given to me by a guy that ran an ad on Craigslist giving away the top to a 75g. He left the top on the curb, he saw me pull up and ran out and asked if I wanted a fish..."I sure do". After about a month or two I gave them both away to people in my local Cichlid club.

Interesting stories. The EBJD is a beauty. Is he still doing well and hamming it up?
That's too bad about the other jumping over to the Flowerhorn's side. I guess he wasn't intimidated by what he saw through that divider.

He's still giving more than he's taking. The divider was actually a plastic peg board. The holes are small so they really couldn't see each other. I got another "whiter" one a few days after starting this thread. He's only 1.5" so he's living by himself for a while.Aura wrote:Interesting stories. The EBJD is a beauty. I had the chance to buy some 2 inch ones from the lfs but at the time I had no room in any tank for them. Now that I have room of course the lfs has no more Ebjd's. Still not convinced if they are hybrids or pure but with my love of blue that might not matter a whole lot, lol. Great looking fish hope he does well.

I really like those fish. Im not a big fan of sa/ca cichlids but these are one of the few that I do like.
