strange poop
when i turned on the 135 this morning one of my otter point jakes had a round ball of what im guessing was poop and it didnt fall off while i was watching them this morning before work, have any of you ever seen this? i have seen some weird things come out of fish but never this, also it wasnt an egg for this fish was a male, when i got home he didnt look very good so i put him down i didnt want him to infect the other fish.

Re: strange poop
Was it pink or reddish in color? It could have been a prolapsed rectum. I know that sounds nasty, but I had one with that problem a few years ago and it recovered after a few days treatment in a tank with epsom salt. My fish wasn't exhibiting any other symptoms though.

Re: strange poop
That wouldn't be the prolapse, but it sounds serious. I was under the impression that bloat was not a quick killer. Have you started any type of treatment?

Re: strange poop
Sorry to hear this! When it happens this fast it is often due to the water. Have you checked your water parameters?

Re: strange poop
2 fish had large chunks out of there skin and im not sure if this was done by another fish or if they did it to themselves trying to scrap something off there bodies, only 2 of the fish had a poop problem that i saw the other 2 looked real sickly and i didnt want to sit and watch them suffer.

Damn bro!
That really has to be pi@@ing you off.
Sounds like your on the right track with the broad spec. antibiotic.
Like you said on the phone,
Better take home some Metronidazole next time your here.
Couldn't hurt.
Metronidazole Powder

Dosage: 1/4 teaspoonful per 20 gallons. 50 grams (treats approx. 800 gal.) Treat every 24 hours with a 25% water change before each treatment. Treat for 10 days.
To mix in food for internal hexamita: Use 2 teaspoons per pound of food. Use frozen food. Thaw food, mix in powder. Then put food in a zip lock back and lay flat in the freezer until frozen. Feed once a day for 10 days.

Re: strange poop
I hope so! Whatever you're treating with, I'd keep it up for a few more days to be sure. Good luck -- it's a shame you lost the ones you did.
