It was good while it lasted... Seth has completely lost interest and Evan isn't far behind. The stappersii and dickfeldi are in with Zeke and doing well. Just moved them earlier this week. I'll get some new pic's. They're lovin life in the big tank.

Really cute. Do yours move shells around the tank and fill in the extras? I've noticed that mine do and a day or two later, they've changed and uncovered some and filled in the others. They are such crazy little characters.

The shells I've got right now are to heavy for them to move, but they do dig around em and fill some in. They're definitely very active fish, quite entertaining.

Great pics mike I love the blue in the fish. My shellies do the same thing feeling in some shells and uncovering them the next day. My little guys are the only fish I have that have bit me, just imagine if they got bigger.

Thanks Cap
These haven't bit me but they don't take any crap off their bigger tankmates.

Your "Stapps" are absolutely beautiful. I have 6 Young ones. I just love the little critters. They never stop and eating is probably their next favorite thing , next to chasing each other. They are one of 3 types of Shellies I have. I have had Malawis for some time but the Shellies are new, like 3 mos. They are absolutely fascinating to watch.

I couldn't agree more Ruth, for what they lack in size they make up ten fold in interesting behaviors.
I don't know if you've seen the movie Jewel of the Rift, but there is a cool segment on shellies in the movie. I definitely learned some stuff about them, very cool segment.

Re: 'Lamprologus' stappersii
I believe I have. The way they try to protect their harem and broods is pretty amazing. If its the one I'm thinking about. I thought it was very interesting how large the dominant male was. So large he couldn't get into the shells. BUT he sure could move the shells around and herd them together. but then the smaller ones would sneak in and breed the females. Very intelligent fish, but then that why we love them. I'm not sure thats the movie you were talking about, thats what can to mind when you mentioned it.
