Stunning! Love the saulosi. Easy to have in a one species tank due to great color on both male and female. How many do you have?

Re: Pseudotropheus saulosi
Thanks! I have about 20 of them. Here are some of them when I moved them from a 38 gallon tank to the 60 and I had a few older fry that I added also.

Re: Pseudotropheus saulosi
I like the second picture. That's a lot of males in that batch. Will you be thinning them out or do they seem to get along right now?
Re: Pseudotropheus saulosi
This is thinned out, Norm. I had quite a few more. They have all grown up together as fry from my original five. They get along okay, with some occasional chasing and some of the males not wanting to color up fully. I will probably have to reduce the number of males again, because there just seem to be so many!

Wow... great color! I have 20 of them but only one male has colored up. I have had them about 5 months now. I expect a few other males to try to color up. Yours look great!
Re: Pseudotropheus saulosi
I still don't have any colored up all the way. A few have lost all yellow but are not the deep blue yet. How long did it take yours to color up all the way.

Re: Pseudotropheus saulosi
I have 10 that I got from Micheal, and already they are a favorite! None are blue yet, but there's one that has a blue sheen to it's face, I'm betting that one is a male.
I just put them in my 33 long, and the male L. hongi that has been in there since the HCCC auction and was hiding all the time is out now, and checking out the newbies. His color looks great against the saulosi, hes lilac purple with the orange fins. AND.... the second hongi that I thought was a sub-dominant male looks to be holding! I think in a day or two I may try to net her and if she is holding, put her in her own tank.
The hongi were an impulse buy at the auction.... I got carried away...lol

Re: Pseudotropheus saulosi
My one male took about 3 months to start coloring up. he is not all the way there, but he is getting close. I guess he was around 5 months old or so.
Re: Pseudotropheus saulosi
Still my favorite Mbuna!
My sister has a colony of them and so many fry, she stopped catching the holding moms!
The males usually start displaying a black dorsal fin at about 5-6 months.
I had a small colony of 6.
2 males and 4 females.
But only one colored up and the other male stayed almost yellow except for the faint black stripes he tried to keep hidden.
