Lesson learned

Post by Aura on Tue Apr 19, 2011 9:49 pm

Doing a water change on the tropheus tank today, I walked away to do something while water was draining through a gravel vac attached to tubing, draining out of the window. . . when I came back it seemed like the water level hadn't gone down as much as it should have. Well, the biggest male was inside the vacuum part, all the way up to the top where the tubing connects. I stopped the flow and he came out and dashed into the rocks. Hope he's okay. He looked a little rumpled from what I could see. Shocked

I've had that happen once before when a loach swam up the vacuum and ended up on the roof of the porch. I guess I can't leave them unsupervised.

that made me laugh, im sure the fish will be ok, never had a fish make it all the way to the hose but have had them in the vac and i most likely have lost some fry while doing a water change.

I did a really stupid thing on my tropheus tank water change today. This is beyond stupid! Embarassed

I started siphoning out the water (filling the gravel vac portion and lifting it up to start the draining process) and still had the end of the hose in my other hand -- the part that's usually hanging outside the window. I have no idea why I did that! I thought it was draining much slower than usual. bangin

its amazing how you do the same thing so many times during a water change and then you forget something one day and the next thing you know you have the shop vac out cleaning up water.
