My L-134 " leopard frogs"

Post by Aura on Mon Feb 21, 2011 9:19 pm

I got the plecos stirred up and out of their hiding spots when I added the new caves that took me nearly a month to receive. I was able to get a few pictures and it seems they are both females. I could really use a male of similar age. Sad

Checking out one of the new caves.

The following day she had moved into the old cave, so both of them are living in the old Walmart caves that I had to begin with.

All of that hassle and two new styles of cave and they don't even like what I got for them. bangin

Cool looking plecos, maybe they just like the color of the old caves?

hulk That had better not be the reason! These are the caves that I ordered in a walnut color only to find out later that he had none in stock, but he did eventually get buff, which I settled for.

That's the plan Derek, but finding a grown one is not easy and these fish are a tad expensive to just buy a bunch of them hoping to get a male. I see them online from $50 to $75 or so plus shipping. There is local fish store that these came from that might have some, I just need to find a chance to get up there. But with those, I'll have to buy and grow them out.

Remember, I had to buy like nine bristlenose before I finally got a female!

If I wait a little longer, maybe these plecos will start practicing "plastic sex'. laughing

Aw thanks, Derek, that's the sweetest thing. I love you But I'd want you to use your money for your own! I don't mind spending the money on a male -- I just don't want to have to buy several to try to get a male. I really don't even know if I'd be able to get them to breed.

Thanks J and vman. Smile

Betty, do you know Barbie Fiorentino in Spokane Washington? I met her at the Catfish Convention. I sent her a friend request on FB to try to get you some leads on local cat keepers. She's like a planet catfish hall of famer, I'll try to get you two hooked up if you don't already know her.

Your cats are lookin AWESOME by the way!!!

Thanks, Mike! I don't know Barbie, but I know who she is. I went to her presentation when she came to speak about plecos at our aquarium society back in November. She was a big hit with the members. I've also seen her post a few times on that crazy email forum thingy that the GSAS uses. I rarely see anything come through there about plecos other than bristlenose.

I know there's another person in Eastern WA who posts on Planet catfish and I've seen that he successfully breeds L-134, so I will contact him and see if he can help me if I can't find anything that doesn't involve shipping. I'd like to check with the owner of the fish store that my two came from first and go from there.

Thank you for the help. Do you know what yours are -- male/female?

Mine are supposed to be 1m/2fm but I can't confirm it. They came from Jeff Rapps and he knows his stuff so I trust his judgement. I sent Barbie a message, hopefully I'll have you a email address soon, if for nothing else to pick her brain a bit Wink
