Sweet looking tank. What did you use for the moonlighting? How hard would it be for a non electrician to set up?

Re: He11's Kitchen
Ordered from http://shop.aquatraders.com/T5-High-Output-Aquarium-Light-s/9.htm
total w/shipping $133.91
ordered Oct 26
shipped Oct 28
arrived Nov 3
Great packaging
With legs and protective cover on splash shield
Nice timer, but rather generic, considering it came with no HQI. NO MANUAL comes with it. Easy enough to figure out tho. To set the time, press clock till the display starts to blink then hold the hour button and min till you get the time. To program, push program till the display blinks and then press the light bank you want to set the timer on, then again hour min buttons.
comes with 4 moonlight leds, each pod had 2 leds
Mine came "preworn" with 3 mounts broken, one totally disassembled. An easy fix with a little glue and some hemostats. I doubt the UPS service opened the box and broke them off on purpose. going to email the company for replacements, will see what happens.
overall it looks good, the fan is superquiet, had to hold a cigarette over the vents to make sure it even had one. The "individual reflectors" are all made from one sheet, but effective.
the splash shield slides out the side, took me a second to figure that out, once again no manual
One more gripe, the mounting screws for the legs are too long, they aren't really needed. The friction alone will hold the legs in the T-slot. But little details like this can really tick you off if you are expecting a quality product. But if it saves you $500 then cutting a few screws may be worth it.
The timer is pretty nice even tho it's mislabeled for this model
1200k
1200k + actinics
actinics only
Overall I'm pretty happy with it, it's nice and bright and the actinics add a nice effect. I asked about substituting the actinics for more 1200k's, they said they no longer substitute the bulbs. But I like the actinics on there. The fixture would be awesome if they'd just use some better materials for the light mounts. A manual would've been nice, as well as sending screws the right size. It runs pretty cool, the top is only warm, I can hardly feel any heat off the bottom.
After a phone call and some photos emailed, they sent replacement sockets at no charge. Easy to replace them.

I love the look of the wood in that tank! Are you going to stick a pleco or two in there?

Got my 2 rubberlips in there, I don't like the big poop-machines, already getting algae on the wood but I'm an algae lover, as long as it's not too out of hand.

Love the look of that tank. Never seen a tank with that amount of wood in it.
Does it lower your pH much between water changes?
That photo of the red devil is a cracker. Love the fins.

Re: He11's Kitchen
been adding baking soda with the waterchanges, the gravel I used doesn't buffer, might add a few cupfuls of the gravel from my 180 to help buffer it out.
ph is staying around 7.4-7.6
haven't really tested it without adding anything

Re: He11's Kitchen
Might trade a few, probably keep a couple and just let nature take it's course with the rest.

Re: He11's Kitchen
I've heard that removing the fry too soon may break the bond between the parents, right now that's priority #1, it's taken a few months to get the male willing to put up with another devil in his tank. It's only been a month since the spawn, figuring I still have 2-4 weeks before the parents start to pick off the fry. My old convict pair wouldn't bother the fry until they started showing spawning behaviors, they'd have about 3 broods in the tank at once, would be cool if these devils turn out the same.
