Post by ovyaker75 on Sat Dec 18, 2010 8:17 pm

would a 20 gallon sump tank be sufficient for a 125 gallon tank? reason why I ask this because I have a 20 gal just laying around and im thinking about turning it to a sump for my future 125 rift tank, any suggestions and thoughts would be appreciated

Very Happy

what kind of turnover/gph are you looking to put through the sump?

i would use a 3 ft 30 gallon tank... give you some extra volume to throw around. For a cichlid tank i would move about 5x turnover through the sump. I would look for a pump rated around 1000 gph... add in 4-5 ft of head pressure and you will probbaly be right around the 5-6x mark of 750gph'ish.

if your using additional filtration i would use less flow through the sump

is it a drilled tank or are you using a siphon/aqualifter overflow?

cool, im a big fan of eshopps siphon overflows... ive seen some nightmares happen with aqualifter failures.

i use the oveflow rated for 700 gph on my 33 long... which im pushing about 375-400 gph through it.
