Flavus spawning Empty Flavus spawning

Post by Aura Mon Sep 06, 2010 1:16 pm

Here's a short little video of a pair of flavus trying to spawn. You can see there is plenty of interference from the other fish. You can also see an auratus/flavus hybrid swim by a few times. This is the reason that I wouldn't sell or give away, or want to buy any fry from tanks with mixed species. You just never know who might be getting a little of their "fertilizer" mixed in. Shocked

Great video Betty. I must say your fish are always so healthy and active looking and the colors, especially the lab, are outstanding. Very Happy

Great video! You got some really stunning fish in that tank. The caeruleus male that swims near the lense a couple of times is a real beauty.

Thank you. Smile

This is my rag-tag tank of misfits -- trouble-makers, extras, and a few hybrids too.

Nice fish! and cool video. How long did it take for your Flavus to color out? mine is about 3 inches and is very dark.

Chris, you had some really nice flavus. Crying or Very sad

Brian, the time to fully color varies depending on tank mates, hierarchy, etc. Mine start showing some color as small as 1.5 inches, but it comes and goes. At 2+ inches I see really nice color on two or three of the dominant males, but they can turn that off quickly.

She did end up with eggs, Derek, but I didn't save the fry. Larry, I don't have any fry now. I gave up on saving them because I just didn't have room to raise them. They've gone into mixed tanks now so I wouldn't feel confident in giving any of those fry out.
